My Biography
Political Economist, Author, and Advocate for Civic Education
Werner Neff is a Swiss-born political economist and author whose writing explores American democracy, constitutional principles, economic policy, and the responsibilities of citizenship.
He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Freie Universität Berlin and a master's degree in economics from the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland. His professional career included executive responsibilities in the hospitality industry and later in the mortgage and small business lending division of a major Swiss bank.
In 2010, Neff immigrated to the United States with his American wife and settled in Colorado. His experience of living under different political and economic systems inspired a growing interest in the history, achievements, and challenges of the American Republic.
As a European-born observer who deliberately chose to make America his home, Neff brings an independent perspective to questions about democracy, political leadership, economic opportunity, and public trust.
His Books
In The Founders' Warning: What America's Founders Might Tell Us Today, Neff brings America's Founding Fathers together in fictional conversations spanning three historical periods: 1789, 2020, and 2040.
Through their imagined debates, the Founders examine the principles upon which the American Republic was established, the political and social challenges facing the nation today, and the responsibilities of future generations.
His book Restore Trust: Economic Solutions to Current Social and Political Issues in the U.S. examines economic inequality, poverty, health care, retirement security, taxation, and public trust. Drawing on his background in economics and political science, Neff proposes reforms intended to strengthen economic opportunity, social cooperation, and confidence in democratic institutions.
His earlier book, Restore Our Democracy, received the 2021 Independent Press Award for Political Commentary.
Across his publications, Neff combines historical reflection, political analysis, and economic reasoning to encourage informed discussion about the future of the United States.
His Mission: Civic Education for Americans
Beyond his work as an author, Neff founded Civic Education for Americans, an independent, nonpartisan initiative dedicated to improving public understanding of American democracy.
Its guiding principle is:
Learning How Democracy Works — Together.
Neff believes that the strength of a constitutional republic depends not only on its laws and institutions but also on the knowledge, character, and active participation of its citizens.
His mission is to encourage Americans of all political perspectives to understand their constitutional system, respect democratic principles, demand ethical leadership, and participate constructively in public life.
He advocates civic education that promotes independent thinking, respectful dialogue, equal dignity, and a shared commitment to preserving and strengthening the American Republic.
His central conviction is simple: Democracy cannot be preserved by institutions alone. It must be understood, respected, and sustained by informed citizens.
